Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the artists' district
Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the literary heart of Paris: Here, novel-loving tourists and art enthusiasts rub shoulders with students of philosophy and cinema. A romantic district, famous the world over, which acquired its letters of nobility at the beginning of the 20th century by becoming the haunt of artists and philosophers.
Witness the restaurant Le Procope, once frequented by Voltaire and Rousseau, or the Café de Flore and the Deux Magots where poets, artists and writers met in the Paris of the 50s.

Even today you can feel the spirit of Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Boris Vian, Jacques Prévert and Serge Gainsbourg in this part of Saint-Germain which was their favorite neighborhood.

Saint-Germain-des-Prés
Nowadays

Saint-Germain-des-Prés has preserved the authentic charm of 17th century buildings. A nerve center for scholars, the district is a stone's throw from the Latin Quarter and the Sorbonne. But the district is also known for its elegant lifestyle which invites you to stroll in its luxurious designer boutiques, its art galleries, its typically Parisian cafés, its gastronomic restaurants and its small intimist lanes, favourable to romantic walks.

The rue de Buci
The history of the rue de Buci
It is one of the oldest streets in Paris. Rue de Buci, famous for its liveliness, its market and for the charm that its cobblestones give it, has the air of a small village. Its origin goes back to the 13th century. At the time, its spelling varied and it was sometimes written Buci and sometimes Bussi. A name that it owes to its owner, Simon de Buci, first President of the Parliament of Paris in 1341. He bought it in 1350 in order to collect the taxes of the goods which passed by there.
For many years, it was one of the most important streets on the left bank. Together with the rue Saint-André-des-Arts, the rue du Four, the rue de Sèvres and the rue Lecourbe, it was a road leading, around the year 1000, from the Petit Chatelet to the south-west, through the Clos de Laas and the Clos Gibart, and with an abrupt bifurcation to the south to go around the Abbey.
